About the Film

The Untranslated is a feature documentary that begins in Thailand with the voice of a single elephant.

A mahout feels it through his body.
AI attempts to read it as data.
Researchers ask whether animal voices carry meaning.
Local communities live with the reality of human–elephant conflict.
And the forest holds what cannot be easily translated.

This is not a film about translating elephant language.
It is a film about what remains beyond translation — voice, vibration, body, silence, and resonance.

Through the space between body and data, tradition and technology, science and the unseen, the film asks whether humans can learn to listen again to the living world.

The Untranslated（仮題） は、タイで録音された一頭のゾウの声から始まる長編ドキュメンタリーである

象使いは、その声を身体で感じる。
AIは、それをデータとして読み解こうとする。
研究者は、動物の声に意味があるのかを問い直す。
地域の人々は、人間と野生ゾウの衝突という現実の中で生きている。
そして森は、簡単には翻訳できないものを抱え続けている。

これは、ゾウの言葉を翻訳する映画ではない。
翻訳の先に残るもの――声、振動、身体、沈黙、そして共鳴――を見つめる映画である。

本作は、身体とデータ、伝統知とテクノロジー、科学と目に見えないもののあいだを探りながら、人間がもう一度、生きている世界に耳を澄ませることができるのかを問う。
